Laisr is a little side project started by Torgny and Javier. The idea was to use carbon fibre as a primary material in furniture by utilising manufacturing processes borrowed from the bicycle industry. The six hollow moulded carbon fibre elements are joined by compression moulded carbon fibre lugs in high-stress intersection areas. This technique not only makes for a highly optimised and extremely light weight structure, it also offers great manufacturing flexibility and a distinctive appearance. Visually, the goal was to create a logical, simple, comfortable and well-proportioned design; we wanted the looks to be as long lasting as the material is durable. The chairs were available in black carbon fibre or in ‘stormtrooper’ white with black lugs. We also made some special editions inspired by iconic vintage racecar liveries. Over the last couple of years we have experimented with upcycled carbon, using off-cuts from the factory and though we do think the mosaic pattern has great potential, it’s a very labor intensive process and that’s something we’re trying to address.
