Cannondale ON
Concept
Cycling
The Cannondale ON was a folding concept bike drawing heavy inspiration from a student project by Philippe Holthuizen and Rodrigo Clavel, which Torgny supervised at Elisava two years earlier. The Cannondale Urban team developed the idea further and a couple of patents were granted; one for the structural chaincase and one for the folding mechanism. One of the reasons for adding folding to the equation was the growing amount of people doing multi-mode commuting, and in most European countries folding bikes can be brought on public transport free of charge. There were plans for an electric assist version too, utilising the space between the main tubes for battery storage. Two ridable prototypes were shown at the Eurobike tradeshow in 2007 and the project had a fair amount of support from upper level management, but unfortunately the global financial crisis hit and all the non-standard projects were canned.
